The Macc Dundee Show helped launch Macc Dundee into comedy stardom, reintroduced audiences to J-Shep and Cheff Dee, (briefly) introduced iCizzle to the big screen, featured one of Macc Dundee’s first movie roles, and began the Dundee Comedy Filmmaking Empire. Before it’s release in 2020, here are some facts that will make you cooler than Macc Dundee in SXSW.
1. IT WAS BASED ON ONE OF IAN CRANSTON’S SECOND CITY SKETCHES.
The first sketch was about a man who, in trying to keep up in a poker game conversation about life experiences, proves to be completely clueless about the subject. After working together on Town Bizzness, Cranston asked Dundee if he had any show ideas; Dundee pitched him the concept and the two co-wrote the show together.
2. DUNDEAL STUDIOS PROVIDED ICIZZLE AND CRANSTON WITH CASE STUDIES ON DETERMINED CHARACTERS.
They read that mack’s were typically normal people who, according to iCizzle, “at some point just gave up on the whole notion; it was more difficult to keep attempting than to give up.”
3. MACC DUNDEE WILL BE 25 YEARS OLD AND A FATHER OF TWO WHEN THE SHOW IS SET TO BE RELEASED.
His four-year-old son was “a little freaked out” at seeing his father on billboards promoting The Macc Dundee Show.
4. DUNDEAL REFUSED TO ALLOW ALBINO BLACK TO BE IN IT.
Since Cranston didn’t have veto power back then, Albino Black was out of luck. However, the incident reinforced Cranston’s advice to Black that he should be writing his own material for a better chance at starring in films—advice which eventually led to Conspiracies Theory.
5. MACC DUNDEE LOST 37 POUNDS FOR THE ROLE.
Though Cranston was originally “nervous about it, because I don’t think comedians wanting to look good is ever good for the comedy,” he gradually realized that Dundee being “ripped” was a good idea. Because it helped establish that Dundee was only a character because he’s shy and nervous, not because of his looks.
